Welcome to Art 208 Video Techniques

Welcome!  The first thing I want to tell you is that I love teaching;  I hope you love learning because that's the main opportunity that I'll try to present to each of you in this class.

I am not the brightest videographic candle that you will ever meet.  In fact, as I compare my personal video skills with the videographers I truly respect, I'm pretty useless.  However, the good news for you is that the people I'm comparing my skills to are among the best in the world--really.

These are guys and gals that work for Fox Sports, ESPN and Speed; they edit video commercials for Honda, Lexus, and Levis.  They produce television show specials that cost millions of dollars and involve hundreds of people; they live in Nashville, LA, Saint Louis, and New York.  Some travel on the road for 200 days/year and others live in secluded county getways that only the "A" list folks get a map to.  At least one wants to leave LA and start a movie studio in Raleigh when it makes business sense to do so.  My instructions to him have always been the same.   See the world, make lots of money and bring it all back here to do something great.

This class will cover many video related topics, cameras, techniques, editing, and many of the things you might do to make a living in the world of digital video.  There's one thing that's really important for you to know...
....it's a really big digital video world out there and I hope that you see some of your future in it--even if it's creating great home movies.  This is class is not a cake walk.  You will have to give of yourself;  show off yourself, and tell others what you think of their work.  But, you'll also have a lot of fun and learn some great skills and techniques.
